 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta. Senate confirms Gen Tarfa, Alkali, others as NEDC board members

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of General Paul Tarfa (Adamawa – North East) for reappointment as the chairman of the board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).


The nomination of Mr. Mohammad Goni Alkali (Borno State) for reappointment as Managing Director of the NEDC was also confirmed.


The confirmation of Tarfa and Alkali for reappointment followed their screening by the Senate in a Committee of the Whole.


Other nominees that were confirmed are Gambo Maikomo (member, Taraba State); Abdullahi Abbas, member of Kano State); Tsav Stephen Aondoana, member, North-Central, Benue); Mutiu Lawal-Areh, member, South-West, Lagos) and Samuel Ifeanyi Onuigbo, member (South-East, Abia).


Also confirmed are Frank Owhor, member (South-South, Rivers); Musa Yashi, Executive Director of Humanitarian Affairs (North-East, Bauchi); Ahmed Abdulsalam Yahaya, Executive Director of Operations, (North-East, Gombe) and Abubakar Garba Iliya, Executive Director Administration and Finance, (North-East, Yobe).


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had, in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpiabio and read at plenary last week, asked the Senate to confirm the nominees for appointment as members of the board.


The President said the request was in line with Section 5(b) of the NEDC (Establishment) Act.


“I write to present for confirmation by the Distinguished members of the Senate, the appointment of the Chairman and members of Executive Management of the board of the North-East Development Commission.


“May I hope that the request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate,” Tinubu said in the letter.
