 BENUE BOOSTS CHILD PROTECTION WITH GRADUATION OF 60 UNICEF-BACKED SOCIAL WORKERS  Benue State has taken a major step toward strengthening child protection and social welfare services with the graduation of 60 Auxiliary Social Workers (ASWs) trained to serve vulnerable children and families at the grassroots. The graduation ceremony, held on Wednesday, marked the successful completion of a programme jointly supported by the Benue State Government, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Benue State Bureau for International Cooperation and Development (BICD). 56-YEAR OLD MAN, ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY DEFILING 11 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER.

One Mr Ọkpara, a 56 year old man has been arrested for allegedly defiling 11 year old daughter in Anambra.

The 56 year old suspect who is resident in Fegge Onitsha is a native of Adazi-Enu in Anaocha local government area of the state.

This was made reported when a good Samaritan noticed that the young girl is limping, upon interrogation she revealed that the father usually do have carnal knowledge of her every night and threatened to kill her if she ever tells anyone hence the reason why she hasn't raised alarm. 

According to the victim, the suspect who is her father started taking advantage of her after her mother's death in 2020 and became overly protective of her by not allowing other family members, friends and relatives to come close. 

Although Mr Ọkpara denied the allegation stating in his defense that his daughter's inability to work properly is because she fell from the refrigerator, but test results from the hospital where the victim was taken to says otherwise.

Reacting to the news, the women and social welfare Commissioner, Obinabo who deployed her staff to the scene of the incident promised to get to the bottom of the case assuring that justice must prevail.

Meanwhile the suspect will be arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka on Wednesday
