Anambra Pathologist Cautions against the dangers of hypertension

A medical expert attached to the Nnamdi Azikiwe teaching hospital Nnewi Dr.Chijioke Egbunike has advised persons from 40 years and above to go for regular blood pressure checks to enhance their health status.


In a press statement in Awka on the complications of hypertension, Dr.Egbunike warned that high blood pressure can damage some vital organs in the body such as the kidney, etc.


According to him,people living with diabetes has a high propensity of developing high blood pressure if not properly managed.


He listed some of the complications of high blood pressure to include stroke, heart failure, and kidney failure.


Dr. Egbunike warned that kolanut and fried food can predispose high cholesterol which can cause high blood pressure.


Dr Egbunike further affirmed that high blood pressure increases with age or can be hereditary, but can be managed through life styles modification.


For the young,he stated that the disease can arise as a result of a defect in the secretion of adrenaline.


The medical expert listed some of the symptoms of hypertension to include numbness of the limbs,blurred vision, heavy headache,body weakness,insomnia, etc.(MOI)
