 Anambra to go after houses without proper drainage in order to combat Erosion  Worried by the rising menace of gully erosion, the Anambra State Government has threatened to enforce regulations requiring residents to provide proper drainage for storm water from their homes. The State Executive Council (ANSEC), which announced the proposed enforcement, lamented that erosion remains an existential challenge in Anambra, blaming the situation on careless actions by some communities and lapses by regulatory bodies in enforcing environmental laws. Briefing journalists after the weekly executive council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said it had been observed that some residents channel storm water from their homes directly onto roads, where it accumulates and worsens the erosion crisis across the state. “ANSEC has resolved to step up enforcement to compel residents to properly channel and manage storm water from their houses. FRSC IMO SACKED ONE OF IT’S OFFICERS FOR JOINING NLC PROTEST. (PHOTO).

The Imo command of the Federal Road Safety Commission has sacked one of its officers for joining members of the Nigerian Labour Congress to protest on Wednesday, August 2, while wearing the special marshals' uniform.


 


Sector Commander of the FRSC in Imo, Evaristus Ebeniro announced the official's sack, adding that he has been de-marshaled and no longer an officer of the corps. 


He revealed that the official who was summoned as a result of inactivity and lack of commitment to duties, absconded and was therefore de-marshaled in absentia in line with the rules of the corps. He was later arrested before his uniform was recovered from him. 


 


Ebeniro said;


 


“The incident prompted the Command to commence investigation to unravel the identity of the protester. 


“It is now confirmed that the protester who happened to be a unionist was once a special marshal. 


“The Command hereby makes it categorically and unequivocally clear that the protester is no longer with the Corps and that he acted alone in that show of shame “
