 Anambra to go after houses without proper drainage in order to combat Erosion  Worried by the rising menace of gully erosion, the Anambra State Government has threatened to enforce regulations requiring residents to provide proper drainage for storm water from their homes. The State Executive Council (ANSEC), which announced the proposed enforcement, lamented that erosion remains an existential challenge in Anambra, blaming the situation on careless actions by some communities and lapses by regulatory bodies in enforcing environmental laws. Briefing journalists after the weekly executive council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said it had been observed that some residents channel storm water from their homes directly onto roads, where it accumulates and worsens the erosion crisis across the state. “ANSEC has resolved to step up enforcement to compel residents to properly channel and manage storm water from their houses. Gov Zulum Releases N10M To Wounded Soldiers.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has approved the release of ten million naira relief package to soldiers wounded-in-action during several encounters with insurgents in the state. 

The support was in fulfillment of earlier pledge made by the Governor at a Sallah launch organised by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja two months ago. 

Delivering the Governor's pledge to the General Officer Commanding GOC Seven Division Major Peter Malla at headquarters of the Division, Maimalari Cantonment, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar assisted by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Barrister Mustapha Busuguma appreciated the military for its sacrifice. 

“We are here to fulfil the pledge made by His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum. You may recall that the Governor was here on a Sallah day for an event, during which he expressed the commitment of the Borno State Government to the welfare of our troops and pledged a donation of N10m to wounded soldiers. This morning he dispatch us to come and deliver the gift.” Professor Tar said.

The Governor expressed commitment to  complement the effort of the Federal Government in providing logistics support and improving troops' welfare. 

He also commended the troops for their resilience in protecting the territorial integrity of the country and for maintaining peace in Borno.

Receiving the donation, the General Officer Commanding GOC 7 Division, Major General Peter Malla expressed appreciation to Governor Zulum for the gesture.

“Let me on behalf of Theater Commander welcome you to 7 Division and want also express our appreciation to His Excellency for always supporting the military,” Major General Malla said.

The GOC gave the assurance of sustaining the relative peace enjoyed in the state by eliminating remnants of the insurgents.
