"Senators received N30m, principal officers N45m for vacation" - Timi Frank

Comrade Timi Frank, a previous spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for increased transparency from Nigerian legislators.

He specifically urged members of the Nigerian Senate and the House of Representatives should publish their bank account details.

This request comes in the wake of a statement by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a live plenary session, revealing a token intended as vacation allowance for lawmakers during their recess.

Comrade Frank, speaking from Abuja on Thursday, emphasized the need for lawmakers to return funds they may have received as unauthorized "enjoyment" and "vacation" allowances from the National Assembly. He expressed concern over the actions of the 10th National Assembly, deeming their behavior as detrimental to the nation. He criticized their apparent detachment from the economic difficulties experienced by ordinary Nigerians who voted them into office.

In a statement, Comrade Frank disclosed that he had reliable information from an upper chamber Senator, who shared insights on the vacation funds. According to the statement, Senators received an alert of N30 million, while principal officers were credited with N45 million. Similarly, House of Representatives members received N30 million, with their principal officers obtaining N45 million.

One Senator from the Northwest geopolitical zone, who confided in Comrade Frank, revealed that he had refused the vacation funds. The Senator expressed that it would be against his principles to accept such funds while his constituents faced hardships. Instead, he planned to spend his time off connecting with his constituents and helping address their challenges in his village.
