 The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), yesterday, sealed off some buildings/properties across the state over different environmental infractions. They are; * A property on 34, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island for deliberate discharge of raw sewage into the public drain causing offensive odour and sewage flowing in the community, constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution and endangering human life. * A block of Shops along Powerline Road, Meiran, Alimosho, for the illegal construction and operation of unsanitary toilet facility on a road setback without a permit, constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution and endangering human life. * A three-storey building at 38, Adeniji Adele Street, Lagos Island for deliberate discharge of raw sewage into the public drain. * A building at H29, House of Jesus Street, Langbasa, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, for the deliberate discharge of raw sewage into the public drains. Bauchi Govt Begins Distribution Of Palliatives


Bauchi State Government has commenced distribution of food and non-food items as palliative to beneficiaries across over 5000 polling units in the state.


Major components of the exercise include distribution of about 89,000 bags of rice to 20 Local Governments Areas, payment of N10,000 each to the most vulnerable citizens, provision of mass transportation buses and payment of students scholarship.


It also include payment of outstanding gratuities and leave grant to retired and active civil servants as well as payment of special allowances to volunteer health workers, casual workers and environmental sanitation agents.


Inaugurating the exercise at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi, the State Governor, Bala Mohammed said the move was to alleviate the economic hardship being experienced by citizens following the recent removal of Fuel subsidy by federal government.


Governor Bala Mohammed said adequate arrangements have been made to reach the targeted beneficiaries in both urban and rural areas.


While appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for responding to the feelings of people, the Governor stressed that the gesture would complement his administration’s economic empowerment initiatives which according to him has lifted a number of families out of poverty.


In their separate remarks, the Commissioner, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajara Yakubu Wanka and Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaimanu Adamu who is the chairman of the palliative distribution committee, assured of transparency in the distribution process.


Some people living with disabilities who are part of the beneficiaries described the move as apt as it would go along way in alleviating their suffering.
