Police smash kidnapping syndicate, arrest suspects in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has bursted a kidnapping syndicate in Fune Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Damaturu on Wednesday.

He said two suspects were arrested in the operation, while one victim was rescued.

According to him, police operatives from the Damagun Divisional Headquarters apprehended the syndicate, which operates along Potiskum, Fune and Nangere axis.

He added that the raid led to the arrest of the syndicate’s kingpin, a 40-year-old, Barum Alh Makau, as well as a 27-year-old associate identified as Rufai Alh Labe.

The police spokesperson said the suspects were apprehended a day after they abducted a 40-year-old woman alongside her 25-year-old son, at Gelel village, in Fune local Government Area.

He added that, prior to their arrest, the kidnappers demanded N7 million as ransom for the woman after releasing her son.

“However, discreet investigation is currently ongoing at the State CID where weapons used in the perpetration of the crime such as five live ammunition, pump action guns, one AK47 rifle, cutlass, bow and arrows as well as locally made bulletproof jacks were recovered,” he said.
