 Recording Academy adds five new Grammy categories, updates rules for 2026 awards NEW YORK - The Recording Academy is introducing five new categories and making several rule changes for the 2026 Grammy Awards in an effort to reflect the evolving global music landscape. Among the new additions is a best Asian pop music performance category, which will honor performances across genres such as K-pop, J-pop, C-pop and other Asian pop styles, with the award going to performers. A new best traditional pop vocal performance category will recognize artists whose work does not fit within modern pop styles. A best Latin song category will spotlight songwriters for Spanish-language Latin recordings. Changes are also coming to existing categories in R&B and folk music. Transport Minister Supports Kaduna Metropolitan Rail Mass Transit Initiative 

The Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Ahmed Alkali has promised to support the Kaduna State government in it's drive to provide a metropolitan rail mass transit scheme for its citizens.

This is to help with transportation challenges occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal. 

Alhaji Alkali who made the promise during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Kaduna State Government to the Ministry in Abuja, remarked that the ingenuity of Governor, Uba Sani to place premium on a viable means of transportation should be commended and given the necessary support it deserves. 

The Minister stressed that the initiative is well-timed, aligning with President's directive to State Governors to propose relief measures to mitigate the impact of removing petroleum subsidies on the Nigerian population.

Earlier, the head of the delegation, Prof. Muhammed Sani Bello, who is also the Commissioner for Education in Kaduna State, mentioned that the purpose of the visit was to seek the Minister's backing for the project. 

He explained that the mass transit train initiative aims to improve the well-being of the populace and enhance the state's income.

The Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Fidet Okhiria,who was present at the occasion informed the Minister that both the Kaduna and Plateau State governments have reached out to the NRC management, expressing their intention to initiate the program.

They see it as a means to alleviate the impact of the subsidy removal due to the significant increase in transportation expenses.

After detailed discussions, the Minister directed the constitution of a Technical Committee consisting of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Nigeria Railway Corporation, and the Kaduna State Government with a timeline of 5 days to produce a Memorandum of Understanding.
