 STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE   ENGINEERS FAROUK AHMED, GBENGA KOMOLAFE RESIGN, PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES SUCCESSORS TO THE SENATE FOR APPROVAL President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   The requests followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed of the NMDPRA and Gbenga Komolafe of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Buhari to lead the two regulatory agencies created by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).   To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.   The two nominees are seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry.   Eyesan, a graduate of Economics f...

Unidentified transformer cable thief electrocuted in Niger

An unidentified man has been electrocuted while attempting to steal transformer cables in the early hours of Friday on the premises of the Niger State Printing Press in Minna, Niger State.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the corpse of the man was found by some staff of the printing press hanging on the transformer.

The head, Legal Unit of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Aminu Ubandoma, confirmed the incident to newsmen.

He said the company had been receiving several reports of transformers being vandalised.

Ubandoma disclosed that the company was working with security agencies, especially the police, to ensure that the rate of transformer vandalism was reduced to the barest minimum.

Also confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Niger Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the incident occurred around the old secretariat area, on the premises of the printing press.

Abiodun said the body had been deposited at Mina General Hospital.

He revealed that effort was ongoing to locate the relative of the deceased and that the matter was under investigation in collaboration with the AEDC.
