 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept".  Zamfara Govt Takes Measures To Rescue Kidnapped University Students


Zamfara State Government is taking proactive measures to ensure that, the kidnapped Students of the Federal University Gusau are rescued without any harm.


This was disclosed by the state Acting Governor Malam Mani Mummuni when he visited the University on assessment tour. 


He said that upon hearing the news about the unfortunate incident, the government promptly took action to determine the best way to safely rescue the abducted students.


According to him, the government will also take adequate measures of averting the reoccurrence of similar incidence.


Malam Mani assured the management of the University community, parents, and general public that, the victims would be rescued without any harm and called on them to continue abiding by the law.


Earlier, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police Muhammad Dalijan said security agencies have surrounded the perpetrators together with their victims both on air and land with a view to rescue them without any injury.


He denounced the allegation that the University management had alerted the security agencies about the attack before it occurred.


In a remark, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration of the University, Professor Ahmad Galadima expressed appreciation to the state government and security agencies for their prompt response.
