 AGF to Meet Senate Panel on Tax Reform Bills Today The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), is set to meet with the Senate today (Thursday) to review the Tax Reform Bills submitted by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly. Amid controversy surrounding the bills, especially from the North, President Tinubu had urged for calm and directed the AGF to engage with the National Assembly to resolve the issues. In response, the Senate established a panel to meet with the AGF. Although the meeting had been delayed due to changes in the Senate panel's membership and caucus discussions, a source from the Ministry of Justice confirmed that the meeting will proceed today. Senator Abba Moro, Chairman of the Senate Special Committee, also confirmed that both the AGF and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, have been invited to the session. Abbo Apologises To Akpabio Over Accusation Of Being Behind His Sack

The sacked Adamawa North Senator, Elisha Abbo, has tendered an apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for accusing him of being behind his sack from the Senate.
Naija News reported that the Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Monday, voided the election of Abbo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared Amos Yohanna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the National Assembly election.

Reacting to the development in an interview with reporters in Abuja, Abbo alleged Akpabio was behind his removal from the Red Chamber for campaigning and working against his Senate Presidency ambition.

But reacting to the allegation, the media aide to the Senate President, Eseme Eyiboh, said Abbo is just looking for someone to blame for his sack from the Senate because his principal was not responsible for the court judgement.

However, in an interview on Arise News on Tuesday night, Abbo said Senator Akpabio was not responsible for his sack from the Rec Chamber, adding that the press conference and releases he put out were premature.

He said the allegations against the Senate President were based on the available information at his disposal on Monday, saying that he has apologised to Akpabio for accusing him wrongly.

Abbo stated that he is deeply convinced that Akpabio is not involved in his sack after swearing on his mother’s grave. The sacked lawmaker noted that his apology to Akpabio was not because he wanted to return to the Senate.

He said: “My accusation was based on the available information at our disposal yesterday. As of today, I am convinced Senator Akpabio is not involved in my dismissal.

“My apology is not because I want to go back to the Senate, but because I am deeply convinced that he is not involved in my sack. After swearing on his mother’s grave, I felt sorry.”

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
