M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. Kogi Guber Campaign: SDP Appeals For Improved Security Ahead November Election

The leadership of the Social Democratic party SDP and the MURI/SAM campaign organization have appealed to security agencies to give priority attention to the security situation in the build-up to the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State.

They made the call during a media conference on what they described as constant killings and attacks on their party supporters and the recent attacks on the campaign convoy of their candidate, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka at Koton Karfe.

The party and its campaign council specifically called on the Inspector General of Police, National Security Adviser and the Director of Department of State Security, DSS, to beam its searchlight on the security of lives and property of the people of Kogi state with just a few weeks to the governorship election.

They cited the recent attack on their candidate, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, in Koton Karfe where about four members of the team were shot and wounded, as one of the numerous attacks on SDP supporters in Kogi State.

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, and its campaign council alleged that the attacks, arrests, harassment and killings of their members have become one too many hence the repeated appeal to the security agencies to stem the tide.

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, was first attacked on June 3, 2023, on his way to Lokoja after visiting the traditional ruler of Koton Karfe before the recent incident during his consultation meeting in the same koton-karfe.
