 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting. Court sentences man to life impr!sonment for bathing girlfriend with ac ! d after she rejected his marriage proposal in Cross River

A High Court sitting in Calabar, the Cross River State capital and presided over by Justice Blessing Egwu has sentenced one Jide Afolabi Sunday to life imprisonment for bathing his girlfriend with acid after she refused to accept his marriage proposal.

33-year-old Sunday was charged with attempted mu rder on his lover, Glory Sylvester Ita, whom he poured acid on.

He was in police custody for months after being arrested for the crime that affected Glory’s abdomen; an ear and breast were cut off and brutally burnt due to the hot sensation of the corr0sive substance.

According to one of the testimonies, after the convict p0ured her the ac!d, he attempted to push her ins!de a p0ol to dr0wn.
