 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

 Nov Polls: INEC Accredits 94 Media Organisations


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has accredited 94 media organizations for the November 11 governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States.


INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu who stated this in Abuja on Thursday during a meeting with Media Executives, explained that in the next few days, the accredited media organisations would be notified of the date for the collection of the identity cards for their official


Professor Yakubu told the Media Executives that the mock accreditation involving actual voters in designated polling units in the three states conducted by the Commission was successful.


‘’We tested the efficacy of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for both biometric authentication of voters and the upload of result to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).


We have received no adverse report so far and we look forward to improved performance of the BVAS in voter accreditation and result upload in the forthcoming Governorship elections and beyond,’’ he said.


Professor Yakubu also said the Commission would meet with the security agencies for the safety of journalists, technical staff and protection of the equipment being deployed by the media organizations on Election Day and to grant the media unimpeded access to polling and collation locations.


The INEC Chairman urged members of the media to strictly adhere to the ethics of their profession and avoid fake news.
