 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  Anambra State Government Taskforce Demolishes Illegal Structures In Onitsha, Environs, Reads Riot Act To Recalcitrant Developers



Anambra State government has pulled down illegal attachment structures and shops in Marine Modern Market, Onitsha.


The joint taskforce removed the structures located on number 11 Gohehol Avenue, Marine Modern Market Onitsha in Onitsha South Council Area.


The action was to stop the activities of an unidentified developer who go about indiscriminately erecting structures and shops in the market.


Recall that the Taskforce had served stop work notice on the developer who remained adamant.


In an interview with ABS the leader of the Taskforce, Barr. Chike Mmaduekwe said that the developer who has been warned severally instead went about attaching structures to old ones in such a way that is contrary to the law of the state.


Barrister Maduekwe further appealled to wealthy developers in the state to support the government in developing the state using the building codes.


He warned that, henceforth, any developer who is caught carrying out unapproved structures such as blocking of waterways and erecting of unapproved structures in the state will be made to face the full wrath of the law.


Speaking with ABS earlier, Chief Raymond Edozie who is a landlord at the Onitsha Marine Market, expressed sadness over the action of the unidentified builder who have been erecting unapproved structures around the area.


He alleged that he also goes about intimidating and threatening anyone who dares speak up and commended the government of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for restoring normalcy to the area.


The taskforce also demolished an illegal structure built by youths of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area which blocked a waterway, thereby causing erosion and destruction of properties in the area.


They carried also carried out a partial demolition at airport road where another developer was erecting perimeter fencing and structures without mapping out the required distance from the road.


They also visited Azu Ogbunike in Oyi Council Area where a contracting firm converted a road project that is supposedly dual carriage road into a narrow one.
