 Rebels to withdraw from key DR Congo town 'after US request' The M23 rebel group has said it would withdraw from the eastern DR Congo town of Uvira at the request of the US administration, which had criticised seizure of the town last week as a threat to mediation efforts. The rebels entered Uvira, on the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met with US President Donald Trump in Washington and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept." A report by a United Nations group of experts in July said Rwanda exercised command and control over the rebels. I was diagnosed with life-threatening infection – Teni


Musician Teniola Apata, professionally known as Teni, has disclosed that she was diagnosed with a life-threatening throat infection in July.


Teni made this known in an Instagram post while narrating her ordeal with a throat infection and temporary voice loss.


In a now-trending video on social media, the singer explained that her doctor advised her to undergo surgery to avoid losing her voice permanently.


“While recording my second album ‘Tears of the Sun’ in July 2023, I was diagnosed with a life-threatening throat infection.


“After different bouts of temporary voice loss, my doctors advised me to undergo a major operation or risk permanent voice loss. I was hospitalised in September 2023 after repeated cases of exhaustion. I had lots of injectables in five days.


“October 2023, I mildly recovered my singing voice after seeking medical assistance despite not undergoing surgery. November 2023: I am fully back on stage. My new single ‘Malaika’ is my song of praise and thanksgiving to God for his mercy and grace,” she said.
