 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta.  Bandits abduct chief, police officers, many residents in Taraba ambush


In a tragic overnight incident, armed bandits descended on the quiet community of Pupule in Yorro Local Government Area, Taraba State, abducting a total of 16 residents, including the district head and second-class chief, Alhaji Umaru Nyala, a police inspector, and a sergeant.


The brazen attack unfolded around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, catching the unsuspecting residents of Pupule in their sleep. Among the victims were key figures in the community, including the district head and law enforcement officers.


Confirming the distressing development, SP Abdullahi Usman, the spokesperson for the Taraba Police Command, revealed that Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has swiftly ordered a comprehensive manhunt for the assailants with the primary objective of securing the safe rescue of the abducted individuals.


Usman shared, “The strike force and anti-kidnapping squad of the police are currently combing the bushes with local hunters and vigilantes to rescue the victims.”


He clarified that one of the kidnapped police officers was on casual leave, while the other was a resident of the affected community.


The community is now gripped with fear and anxiety as efforts intensify to locate and free the victims from the clutches of the criminals.


The incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by certain regions, necessitating proactive measures and collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in vulnerable areas.
