 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots.  Bandits abduct chief, police officers, many residents in Taraba ambush


In a tragic overnight incident, armed bandits descended on the quiet community of Pupule in Yorro Local Government Area, Taraba State, abducting a total of 16 residents, including the district head and second-class chief, Alhaji Umaru Nyala, a police inspector, and a sergeant.


The brazen attack unfolded around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, catching the unsuspecting residents of Pupule in their sleep. Among the victims were key figures in the community, including the district head and law enforcement officers.


Confirming the distressing development, SP Abdullahi Usman, the spokesperson for the Taraba Police Command, revealed that Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has swiftly ordered a comprehensive manhunt for the assailants with the primary objective of securing the safe rescue of the abducted individuals.


Usman shared, “The strike force and anti-kidnapping squad of the police are currently combing the bushes with local hunters and vigilantes to rescue the victims.”


He clarified that one of the kidnapped police officers was on casual leave, while the other was a resident of the affected community.


The community is now gripped with fear and anxiety as efforts intensify to locate and free the victims from the clutches of the criminals.


The incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by certain regions, necessitating proactive measures and collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in vulnerable areas.
