 More than 100,000 children have been displaced by the latest escalation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, UNICEF said on Sunday, warning the numbers are expected to rise as violence spreads. Since Dec. 1, intense fighting has uprooted more than 500,000 people, with children accounting for over 100,000 of those displaced in South Kivu alone, the UN agency said in a statement released Sunday. It said since Dec. 2, hundreds have been killed in the fighting, and children have been among the victims, with four students killed, six injured, and at least seven schools attacked or damaged. The rapid escalation has forced hundreds of thousands of children and families to flee within Congo and into neighboring Burundi and Rwanda, it added. Drivers Overloading To Face Prosecution, Legal Consequences - FRSC Warns Public 

Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has issued a warning to the public, that henceforth drivers caught overloading goods and passengers will face prosecution and legal consequences. 

The kaduna State Sector Commander, Kabir Nadabo
issued the warning in response to a road crash on Tuesday at Sabon Sara village along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway which led to the death of 4 individuals, with 56 others sustaining various degrees of injuries. 

Mr Nadabo told Radio Nigeria in Kaduna that the unfortunate incident involved a trailer bearing registration number MKA 99YS and took place at approximately 03:30 hours.  

According to the Sector commander, preliminary investigations indicate that the crash resulted from overloading of both goods and passengers, coupled with driver fatigue. 

He noted that the injured individuals have been taken to ST. Gerard and AP Smart Hospitals, both located in Kakuri.

While commending the Kaduna State Government for it's support and interventions, Nadabo also appreciated media organizations working in the state for their untiring efforts to sensitize members of the public on do and don't while on the road.

The Federal Road Safety Corp FRSC in Kaduna further restated it's position, emphasizing that any driver arrested for overloading goods and passengers would be held accountable and face the consequences of the law.
