Nasarawa NYCN Suspends Chairman Over Alleged Financial Misconduct

The Chairman, Nasarawa State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria(NYCN), Comrade Muhammad Ja'afar Loko, has been suspended from office over alleged financial misconduct.

Mr Loko, a former Speaker of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria(YAN) was accused of siphoning millions of naira belonging to the council.

The decision was taken on Wednesday at its end-of-the-year congress held at the Abacha Youth Centre, Lafia.

The council also constituted a fact-finding committee to thoroughly investigate the suspended Chairman over the allegations levied by some local branches of the association among others.

Furthermore, Comrade Alhassan Muhammad Nasir has been appointed to preside over the affairs of the Council pending the outcome of the investigation.

Speaking with our correspondent, the Legal Adviser of the council, Barrister John Samuel Attah confirmed the suspension, adding that it was with immediate effect.

Reacting however, a member of the Council, Comrade Musa described the suspension as illegal.

He alleged that the congress didn't follow due process in suspending Loko from office and urged the general public to disregard it completely.

“Loko remains our Chairman and he enjoys our complete support and unflinching loyalty,” he added.

Efforts to reach the suspended Comrade Loko for comment over the allegations proved abortive at press time.

The council had received millions of naira from NASENI, state government and some prominent individuals. These however remain unaccounted for.
