 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being. Three Traditional Rulers In Oyo State D!e In Road Accident

Three traditional rulers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State lost their lives in a road crash at the Arinkinkin area of Ogbomoso on Friday.

The three deceased Obas from the local government were; Olodogbo of Odogbo, Onibowula of Bowula, and Alayetoro of Ayetoro.

According to reports, the Obas were said to be on their way to the burial ceremony of the mother of another traditional ruler, Oloolo of Oolo, Oba Oyebunmi Ajayi, when the accident occurred following which their vehicle ramming into an oncoming truck.

Olodogbo was confirmed to have died on the spot but it was unclear at what point the other two monarchs passed away.

A source at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, confirmed the incident to Ogbomoso Insight Online, informing newsmen that their bodies were deposited in the hospital’s morgue.

t was revealed that the fourth victim who sustained injuries was being attended to in the hospital “but he doesn’t look like an Oba,” the source said.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
