 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. YOU MUST KEY INTO COAS COMMAND PHILOSOPHY, GOC TELLS NEWLY PROMOTED OFFICERS


The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General JH Abdussalam has admonished newly decorated senior officers to key into the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General  Taoreed Lagbaja, in order to effectively perform their command responsibilities.

Major General  Abdussalam gave this admonition at the Lieutenant General F Yahaya Badminton Court, Port Harcourt Barracks during the decoration ceremony of the five Colonels who were elevated to the rank of Brigadier Generals at the recently released promotion for year 2023. 

While congratulating the new Generals, the GOC admonished them to have a sober reflection on why they were chosen amongst multitudes. He urged them to key into the Command Philosophy of the COAS, which has sound administration anchored on the welfare of troops by getting them well trained, well equipped, and highly motivated. This he further maintained will enable them to accomplish assigned tasks. He further emphasised that a key component of command is the welfare of troops. 

The GOC also implored them to reflect on the core values of the NA not just as officers but also as human beings. He added  that they essentially encompass the vital ingredients of humanity,  which are patience, hard work, dedication, loyalty, and humility. 

Major General Jamal expressed gratitude to God for his grace to have  witnessed the ceremony. He added that their new ranks were well deserving. He urged them to devote themselves to their added responsibilities as it is a rank that requires only the best. 

The GOC stated that 6 Division is tasked with the responsibility of protecting the Niger Delta region with its main focus on ensuring that oil production continue to increase and even surpass the level of expectations to enable the Federal Government fulfil it's duties to citizens.

In a related vein, there were goodwill messages from the Chief of Staff, 6 Division, Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola and the Commander, 63 Brigade, Brigadier Sanusi Aliyu, where they congratulated the senior officers their achievements. They welcomed them to the folks of Generals, stating that the Generals were already conversant with the duties that would be required of them, giving the pedigree of their current appointments. They equally urged them to do their best to earn the trust of their subordinates, adding that it's a period of good mentorship from their own end. 

Brigadier General Chiedozie Amorha, on behalf of the newly decorated Generals, thanked the COAS for his magnanimity in finding them worthy to be promoted. He appreciated the GOC for creating enabling ground for them to serve the NA to earn promotion. He also thanked other senior officers for their support.

The senior officers under 6 Division, who benefitted, include Brigadier Generals Chiedozie Amorha, Adamu Kitchener, Kingsley Inyang, Effiong Nse and Ibrahim Gambari.
