 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. 2 Confirmed Dead In Ibadan Explosion

National Emergency Management, NEMA says rescue operations are on at Adeyi Estate, Bodija, Ibadan following Tuesday’s night explosion that rocked the area.

According to NEMA, the situation has been brought under control while operations continue to ensure smooth rescue of casualties.

Similarly, the Oyo State Government has appealed to residents to stay away from the site of the incident to enable emergency responders to continue at the site without interference.

Also, Governor Seyi Makinde on X revealed that over 77 victims were injured, while two lost their lives.

”Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast. The investigations are ongoing. All those found culpable for this will be brought to book” Governor noted.

‘‘We are grateful to the first responders, security personnel and all those who are at the scene to assist with the rescue operations as well as the medical personnel taking care of the injured. Please say a prayer for those who have been affected by this disaster as we continue with the rescue operations,” he said

Governor Makinde, who visited the scene of the explosion Tuesday night, said preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that the explosion was caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners.
