FG Urged To Grant LG Full Autonomy

The federal government has been urged to save and salvage local government administration from impending destruction and grant it full autonomy.

The national coordinator of the concerned stakeholders in the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) under the aegis of Kwara Progressives Development Movement , Alhaji Mohammad Mariam- Alhassan, made the call while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin.

He alleged that governance at the local government level in the Kwara state had remained in the hands of a few individuals under Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) arrangement.

Alhaji Mariam -Alhassan appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dissolve the alleged illegally constituted TIC arrangement put in place by the state government for over four years, adding that, "it is contrary to the Section 7 (1) and Section 14 (1) of 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

According to him the Constitution specified three years tenure
period of service in the office for duly elected Executive Council members.

Alhaji Mariam -Alhassan also requested that the President should order the Federal and Fiscal Mobilization Commission to stop releasing the monthly statutory revenues allocations to all the 16 local government areas of Kwara state until constitutionally and democratically elected council executives were in place.

He explained that the present TIC arrangement is an aberration and unknown to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

Alhaji Mariam-Alhassan also urged President Tinubu to order the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to properly investigate all financial transactions of all the TIC leaderships since inception with the intention of instilling institutional transparency, financial accountability, and strengthening of democratic ethics.
