No good deed goes unpunished.  A Florida sea tow captain saved a man from a burning ship only to be shoved overboard and have his boat stolen. This shocking incident occurred near Marco Island on March 6th. On that date, a call went out regarding a burning boat. The captain of a sea tow boat heard the distress call and rushed to provide aid. He was able to quickly locate the burning boat and  discovered 40-year-old, Ryan Deiter, and his dog onboard the burning ship. Wasting no time, the captain of the sea tow boat was able to maneuver alongside the distressed boat and begin efforts to extricate Deiter and his dog from the doomed vessel.  Eventually, the sea tow captain was able to pull both Deiter and his dog onboard the tow boat. However, once Deiter was pulled to safety, he repaid a stranger's kindness with treachery.  Deiter shoved the captain from his own boat and fled the scene in the stolen boat, leaving the man who had just risked his own vessel and life...

LASRRA TO SET UP DEDICATED CENTRE AT LASU MAIN CAMPUS IN OJO

The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), in its bid to scale up registration and make all residents irrespective of tribe, gender and social status key into the plans of the State Government, has decided to set up a dedicated Centre at the main campus of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, where staff and students can register/validate with ease.

The plan was revealed today during the courtesy visit of the General Manager of LASRRA, Mrs. Adebiyi-Abiola Bilikiss and some officials of the Agency to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, MNI, NPOM, and her team at the Institution.

Adebiyi-Abiola noted that Lagos State University is a great citadel that is ranked high amongst other institutions in Nigeria and recognised globally, as such, much attention should be accorded to the institution in terms of planning for its students and staff. “It is very important that people in this institution are all included in the database of the Agency so that adequate arrangement in terms of their welfare and social-economic well-being are adequately catered for”, she said.

The General Manager further stated that the setting up of a dedicated centre at LASU Main Campus is to make registration/validation as well as LAG-IDpick-upp seamless and easier so that staff and students do not have to go from one LG/LCDA to another just to get registered/validated.

While explaining that the process of registration begins with an online registration before physical capturing of biometrics can take place, Adebiyi-Abiola added that the process of registration is completed with the issuance of a smart, multipurpose card which has different functionalities.

On her part, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olatunji-Bello who earlier warmly welcomed the team, applauded the idea of setting up a dedicated centre to facilitate compliance with the directive that all Lagos State Government-funded Institutions must all key into the LASRRA database.

Professor Olatunji-Bello, therefore, directed the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Department of the Institution to interface with the LASRRA team to achieve the laudable initiative.

Also present during the courtesy visit by the LASRRA Team are Principal Officers from different Directorates of the Institution.
