 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

 Anambra Lawmakers Urge State Government To Ensure Full Utilisation Of Ogbaru  Ultra Modern Park

The Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to direct the State Commissioner for Transport and the Chairman, Anambra State Urban Regeneration Council to ensure the full utilisation of Ultra Modern Terminal Park, Ogbaru for its specified purposes.


This was sequel to a motion sponsored by the member representing Ogbaru I constituency, Mr. Noble Igwe and seconded by Mr. Golden Iloh representing Ihiala II constiuency during plenary on January 30.


The Speaker of the House, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided over the plenary had moved for the adoption of the motion while the lawmakers unanimously adopted it through voice votes.


Speaking on the motion, Igwe expressed concern that the park was no longer being used for loading and off-loading of vehicles meant to bring sanity within the Upper Iweka axis.


Igwe, the Deputy Minority Leader of the House was disturbed that the revenue the government ought to be getting through the modern park was nowhere to be found.


He, however, expressed worry that traders have messed up the beauty and serenity of the Ultra Modern Park with their private businesses.


According to him, aware that the past government developed the terminal park at Upper Iweka for improved transport system so as to decongest road side motor parks.


"Further aware that some individuals have bastardised the main purpose for which the park was developed", Igwe stressed.


The lawmakers that spoke in favour of the motion are Mr. Emmanuel Nwafor representing Orumba South constituency, Mr. Chidi Ibemeka representing Njikoka I, Mr. Ejike Okechukwu representing Anaocha II and Mr. Fredrick Ezenwa representing Onitsha South I constiuency.


Others include Mr. Henry Mbachu representing Awka South I constituency, Mr. Jude Akpua representing Njikoka II, Mr. Tony Muobike representing Aguata II and Mr. Kingsley Udemezue representing Idemili North constiuency.


The lawmakers pointed out that the importance of the Ultra Modern Park in Ogbaru cannot be over emphasized, saying that if put to good use, will improve the aesthetics of the area as well as improve the Internal Generated Revenue of the State.


While adding that saving of lives is one of the reasons for erecting such parks, the legislators posited that government should ensure that the park is put in good use.
