 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

 Erosion control team from different ministries visits Basden Memorial School, Isulo

Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Barr. Pauly Onyeka has lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo's plans to transform the education sector of the state for effective performance.


The commissioner gave the commendation when a team of officials from the ministries of Housing and Education as well as Anambra State Erosion Watershed and Climate Change Agency went on fact-finding mission to Basden Memorial Special Education Center lsulo, Orumba South Local Government Area.


The Housing commissioner represented by the Director of Building Construction and Maintenance, Mr. Samuel Ojeleke, assured the principal of the school that the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo would respond quickly to  the erosion problem ravaging the school


"This is a special school and we cannot joke with it for whatever reason," he said. 


The commissioner also promised to ensure that the governor gives express approval for resumption of remedial work on the area.


"We shall do everything  possible to ensure that memos concerning the project receives accelerated attention by  Mr. Governor for immediate intervention."


The leader of the team and Chief Executive Officer, Anambra State Erosion Watershed and Climate Change Agency, Prof. Phil Eze, said that the team were on mission to ascertain the level of erosion encroachment in the institution with a view to finding an urgent, simple smart solution to the problem.


Prof. Eze who blamed the poor topographic landscape of the area for the gully erosion also recommended the planting of grass around the compound with the construction of water collector to channel rain water from the buildings  into water tanks.


"It's also good to build a catchment pit to check the erosion. This place equally needs a perimeter fence to protect the students from external invaders and  uncontrolled fire which has destroyed some of the school buildings."


The Environmental scientist called on philanthropists in the Community to form an erosion control committee to tackle the gully erosion challenges  in Isulo and environs.


After conducting the team round the school, the Principal of the school, Mrs. Chigozie Chinwe, noted that the institution has impacted positively on  the physical challenged in the society by giving them sense of belonging which has helped them to withstand the challenges posed by the society.  


She appreciated the solution team of Governor Soludo for its giant strides across the state within two years. 


The President General of the town, Mr.  Eze Onyeka, had earlier thanked the governor for deploying the team to address the school erosion challenges calling on him to assist lsulo town to control some of its major erosion problems that are almost cutting off the roads.
