By Juliana Nwachukwu

The Chairman, Old Motor Spare Parts Market, Mgbuka Obosi,  Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Chief Samuel Ifunwa, on 1st February, said that the market would by this february 2024 install security cameras in the market to help ward off criminals from the market.

He made this known while fielding questions from newsmen, adding that the cameras would also be installed at the entrance/exit gates so that identities of anybody could be easily discovered.

"Also in no distant time our roads will be tarred since our working Governor has started it from Mgbemena Street, so it will come down to our market. We have also embarked on the repair of our tipper for evacuation of refuse, we are trying to fix it, change the engine and repaint it.

"Our toilets are perfectly working since I constructed more to the three we had before and we weekly clean our market to make sure that everywhere is neat," he further explained.

On the allegation that they sell stolen vehicles, he denied it adding, "Before any vehicle here is bought, immediately the vehicle comes here, the paper will get to the police station and will be thoroughly checked by the DPO to make sure the original owner wants to sell it, then we carry on, no stolen vehicle is brought here for procurement because there are security men," he explained.

On the Monday prayer session he said that it was still pending for now but that they have normal clean up exercise on Mondays.

"It was last week that the ASMATA President General told us to start our normal weekly prayers. In terms of cordial relationship with my caretaker committee, as a leader, I carry everybody along, we meet every end of the month, none of them complained against me.

"What normally brings problem in the market is when the chairman refuses to do what he is supposed to do.There was a time we did election here, 2008, to be frank, I am the credible candidate, first choice of the market. That is the reason why everywhere is calm since I was made the caretaker committee chairman. If there is an election tomorrow, I will come out because I have hope that I will win," he boasted.

On alleged police disturbances in  the market he said that he has visited some police stations, that included, Awada, Okpoko, to synergize with them for effective policing. I visited and explained to them that I am the chairman of this market and that  they should not disturb any of our traders, customers, carrying genuine motor parts," he said.
