 ANAMBRA TRUTH, PEACE AND JUSTICE COMMISSION SUBMITS FINAL REPORT TO GOVERNOR SOLUDO



The Executive Governor of Anambra State Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo  has been handed the final report of the “Anambra Truth, Peace and Justice Commission”, which was put in place by his government to investigate the remote causes of insecurity and unrest in the state and the South East as a whole.


The Governor while speaking in the event which took place in the ANSEC Chambers, Government House Awka, voiced his fears on the impact crime has on the younger generation and the path they have taken which spills only doom.


Governor Soludo applauded the efforts of Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, the Chairman of the Commission as well as it's members for a great report and their  dedication towards ensuring that there is peace and stability within the state.  


The Governor noted that the report's will serve as a yardstick to eradicating of crime nation wide.  Governor Soludu stressed the need for collaboration with federal agencies,regional governments and other security agencies including the State Vigilante Group, stating his plans to share the report and with national security agencies while collaborating with other South Eastern states to address the cross-border nature of criminal activities.


  The Governor once again spoke on his commitment to building and leading a peaceful Anambra state and will ensure that the reports recommendations are implemented to secure the future.  He also encouraged that the persons, community’s and religious bodies join the fight to curb the rise in crime within the state.


The Chairman of the Commission, Professor Odinkalu expressed his profound gratitude to the governor for entrusting the commission with the task of stopping crime and assures the governor of getting a positive result.  


The Commission has also reviewed about 66 communities in the state, noting down cases of traditional rulers, security agents, presidents-general (PGs), and persons who have vanished and have not been accounted for.  


Professor Odinkalu developed a 25-year security strategy to reform community governance and establish an agency for the protection of victims and accountability for violence; He also suggested an end to the use of term “unknown gunmen” which has been attached to the perpetrators of these crime by the media.


Present at the event was the delegation of the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary of the Commission, Amb. Bianca Ojukwu, and representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). members of the Anambra Executive Council amongst others.
