M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords.  El-Rufai-Sani Rift: Lukman urges APC’s intervention

A former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the APC, Salihu Mohammed Lukman, has urged the party leadership to intervene in the escalating feud between former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and the incumbent governor, Ubah Sani.

Lukman expressed concern over the rift, stating, “That shortly after taking over, the two friends are falling apart is most unfortunate and only reminds one of what played out between Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi and Arc. Namadi Sambo between 2007 and 2010.”

He highlighted the role of party leaders in resolving such disputes, emphasizing the need for intervention to strengthen state governments’ governance capacity.

Lukman called on all APC members in Kaduna to take responsibility for the state’s challenges and urged Governor Sani to undertake an inventory of the state’s debt and its utilization.

The call for intervention comes amid claims by Governor Sani of inheriting a significant debt burden from El-Rufai’s administration, prompting a response from El-Rufai’s son, Bashir, who accused the governor of incompetence.

Lukman’s statement underscores broader concerns within the APC about internal conflicts and governance issues in several states, including Benue, Ebonyi, and Cross River.
