 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being.  Man Lounging In His Balcony Shot Dead In Abeokuta 



The Ogun State Police Command on Monday confirmed that gunmen shot a man dead in front of his house in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, stated that two gunmen alighted from an unregistered Toyota Corolla vehicle and shot the man in his head as he was lounging in front of his house on Sunday.

The assailants, she said, fled the scene immediately.

She stated that upon hearing gunshots, neighbours raised an alarm and placed a call to the police to report the incident.

Police got to the scene and found the man lifeless in a pool of his own blood, she also stated.

Odutola added that doctors at the State Hospital, Abeokuta, confirmed the man dead and the body was deposited at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

She stated also that no arrest had been made, but that investigations had gone underway.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
