The Director-General, Benue State Education Quality Assurance Agency, Terna Francis disclosed on Thursday that the State Government has promised to stamp out rots in its education sector,

Francis cited several rots that have pervaded the education sector in the state and assured that the present administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia is poised to correct all the anomalies.

One of the rots, according to him, is the case of a school principal (name withheld) who substituted the names of 115 students of the Senior Secondary School 3 class with external candidates in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination, after collecting examination fees from the candidates.

According to the DG, “We received a petition from parents of an SSS 3 student within the Makurdi metropolis where the principal removed the student’s name who has been in the school from SSS 1 from the list of candidates supposed to benefit from the state government’s palliative WASSCE fees and replaced the name with an external candidate after he collected money from him.

“We decided to go to the school and find out, only to discover that the names of 115 students were substituted for external candidates and money was collected from them. The issue has been brought to the notice of the Governor and awaiting his recommendation.”

Francis further revealed that another principal of a secondary school in the state also removed equipment from the school laboratory, and sold the equipment to a private school to get accreditation for the examination.
