 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

 Dubai Police Participates in the 49th Arab Deaf Week

 

Dubai Police, represented by the People of Determination Empowerment Council and the Positive Spirit Council, participated in the 49th Arab Deaf Week.

 

The event was organised by the Dubai Club for People of Determination, coinciding with global celebrations aimed at raising awareness about hearing disabilities, emphasising the importance of integrating and engaging with this community.

 

The event was attended by Thani Juma Belregad Al Falasi, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Dubai Club for People of Determination, along with several specialists in dealing with people of determination, participants, Dubai mounted police, the Dubai Police band, and Dubai tourist patrols.

 

Major Abdullah Hamad Al Shamsi, head of the People of Determination Empowerment Council at Dubai Police, emphasised that Dubai Police is committed to involving people of determination in various local and international events and occasions.

 

“This is part of its ongoing efforts to integrate and empower them in society, aligning with the national policy and Dubai’s strategy to make the city inclusive and friendly for people of determination,” he said.

 

Al Shamsi highlighted that the 49th Arab Deaf Week is a crucial event for raising awareness about hearing impairments and promoting inclusion and communication with this community. He thanked the Dubai Club for People of Determination for hosting the event, which provided an opportunity to deliver workshops specifically designed for people with hearing disabilities.

 

Fatima Bouhajir, head of the Positive Spirit Council, noted that such active and constructive participation in the community helps achieve the goals of promoting values of tolerance, positivity, and solidarity among different community groups, through inclusive events that support Dubai Police's strategic direction towards community happiness.

 

Mohammed Al Hajjaji, Secretary of People of Determination Empowerment Council, presented workshops and lectures to raise awareness about hearing disabilities. He also highlighted Dubai Police's services tailored for people of determination, such as the "Virtual Sign Language Interpreter" available on the smart Dubai Police app, and the "Smart Screen Translator" available at all smart police stations to serve visually impaired individuals. Additionally, the "Labbeh" service at all Dubai Police stations and the "Smart Path" service assist visually impaired individuals in navigating police stations.
