 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville.  Every year the Met Gala brings together an incredible crowd of fashion designers, models, and the brightest stars of music and film in celebration of the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition. “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” is this year’s show, and it draws from the Costume Institute’s own permanent collection to highlight the multi-sensory experience of wearing clothes. “Fashion is one of the most emotional artistic forms because of its connection to the body,” Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, explained in a recent interview. “It is imbued with memory and emotions, and we relate to it very much via our senses. One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.”

On the 2024 Met Gala red carpet, it is co-chairs Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth—all of whom can be frequently found on best-dressed lists—that will be setting the tone for the evening. This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” promises a myriad of interpretations, which are sure to yield many looks that surprise and delight.
