 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  GOVERNOR UZODIMMA ACCENTED IMO POLYTECHNIC AMENDMENT BILL INTO LAW 



Governor Uzodimma has officially signed the Imo State Polytechnic Amendment Bill into law, transitioning the institution to a mono-campus system. 


Governor Uzodimma, in his address during the signing ceremony, emphasized the importance of polytechnic education, highlighted the key provisions of the bill, which includes centralizing the activities of the institution in one campus. 


The Governor informed that making Imo State Polytechnic a mono-campus is to, among other things, "cut cost and reduce student’s risk of movement and ensure prompt verifications and effective supervision as well as allow for easy teaching and learning and graduation of the students at the appropriate time." 


The Speaker and other House members, along with key state officials like the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, and Attorney General, attended the bill signing ceremony.
