Off Duty Seattle, Washington security guard takes the life of a teen trying to return a BB gun to a sporting good store.
51 year-old Aaron Brown Myers is being charged with homicide after an incident at a Big 5 Sporting Good store. According to reports, Myers was sitting in his car waiting on his son who was attending Ju Jitsu classes.
After this, Myers version of events differs greatly from what security camera footage reveals.
According to Myers, he witnessed the boys walk by his vehicle with what he believed to be a Glock. He claims he thought it was "his duty" as an "off duty security guard" (at an entirely different facility) to protect people.
He says he exited his vehicle with his weapon in his hand and ordered the teens to put their hands up. He goes on to say they completely ignored him and one teen began reaching into his waistband for what he believed to be a weapon.
He contends he "repeatedly demanded the teen to stop reaching in his waistband but the teen continued to reach for what he believed was a weapon". He alleges he was sure that the teen was going to fire his "weapon" at him, so he fired his weapon. Due to his actions, 17 year-old Hazrat Ali Rohani lost his life. Myers is quoted as saying "he had a duty to act".
What video footage shows differs greatly from Myers version. In the footage, the teens can be seen making their way to the store to return the BB gun. As they were approaching the store Myers got out of his car and began immediately pointing his weapon at them and shouting commands as he moved quickly towards them.
Footage then shows one of the boys (who appears scared) take a BB gun out of his pocket and lay it on the ground. The teen then extended both empty hands forward in a submissive gesture. Myers then shoved that boy to the ground and straddled him. He then aims his weapon at the 17 year old Rohani and begins shouting at him. Rohani begins backing away with his left hand in the air. He briefly lowered his right hand to his waist area (not in his waist band). This is when you can see his body jerk away from Myers and drop to the ground as a result of Myers firing his weapon.
Both surviving teens said they repeatedly told Meyers they only had a BB gun that they were returning to Big 5 and before they knew it Myers had fired his weapon.
The arresting officer's report states there was probable cause to arrest and charge Myers with second degree homicide without premeditation.
Aaron Brown Meyers is being held on a 2 million dollar bond. There are no other updates on upcoming court appearances or if Myers has retained legal representation. Although surveillance video contradicts his entire account, he is still sticking with his story.
