 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta.  Police ban durbar activities during Eid-el-Kabir in Kano


The police command in Kano has banned all durbar activities in the state during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration.


The Sallah celebration is expected to take place on June 17.


A durbar is a festival held during Eid-el-Kabir and Eid-el-Fitri celebrations. It begins with prayers, followed by a parade of the Emir and his entourage on horses.


In a statement on Thursday, Abdullahi Kiyawa, police spokesperson in Kano, said the ban is to ensure the safety of lives and properties in the larger community during the celebration.


He said worshippers should conduct their normal Eid prayers at designated praying grounds.


“The Kano State Police Command congratulates the Muslim faithful and all law-abiding residents of the state for witnessing yet another Eid-El-Kabir Sallah period and assures that adequate security deployments have been put in place to ensure no breakdown of law and order in all parts of the state before, during, and after the festive period,” the statement reads.


“This is part of the commitment to the sustenance of the peace by the Kano State Police Command in conjunction with all the relevant security stakeholders.


“In furtherance, a ban has been placed on ALL DURBAR activities throughout the state for the upcoming Eid-El-Kabir celebrations. This measure is taken as a result of a series of security reports obtained and wide consultations made with relevant security stakeholders to ensure the safety of the larger community.”
