 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots.  *Anambra Ministry of Justice Organizes seminar for state counsels*

To help the lawyers become more effective in their practices and call to duties especially in the area of prosecutions and cross examination the Ministry of Justice Anambra State has Organized a 1-day training for state counsels.


The training was held in Awka on July 26.


The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Sylvia Ifemeje while declaring the training open stressed on the need for commitment and dedication to duty.


She noted that they defend the state therefore should place the interest of the state above theirs.


The commissioner enjoined all to listen attentively in order to learn from prominent speakers and facilitators, which were made up of a Judge, a retired state council and a medical doctor.


She applauded Gov. Charles SoLudo's administration for collaborating with the Judiciary and Legislature, to promulgate appropriate laws and the dispensation of Justice by signing some laws passed by the State House of Assembly which according to her was a great landmark achievement that deserved commendation.


The Attorney General lamented the demise of two lawyers, a male and a female who passed away recently, in the persons of Peter Awa and Mrs. Stella Ilora.


She prayed that their souls and that of others who have passed in the Ministry rest in perfect peace.


Hon. Justice D.A Onyefulu while delivering his paper on 'Cross Examination A weapon in the Hand of Adversary and Parties on Trial In Court And Tribunals' said that criminal prosecution is a technical procedure that requires a skilled prosecutor to navigate successfully.


He mentioned the skills to include filling of information, arraignments, ingredients of the offense, availability of witnesses, sufficiency of witnesses and cross examination.


Justice Onyefulu maintained that prosecutors must be intelligent, making sure that exhibits were available and well presented in courts.


The Supervising Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barr. Ndirika Onyekwelu frowned at the level of insubordination and disrespect amongst lawyers. She advised them to shun every disapproving act and imbibe respect and obedience towards seniors.


On her part, Dr. Tundy of the state Ministry of Health thanked the Attorney General for helping them get a law that backs safe termination of pregnancies for legal indications.


She maintained that the termination of pregnancies according to the existing law is allowed for pregnant mothers with health issues in order to save the life of the mother as the carriers of the foetus.
