 Terrorists, banditry activities in Northwest have reduced – Shehu Sani Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has disclosed a decrease in the activities of terrorists and bandits in the Northwest. Sani said the recent killings of some top terrorists’ leaders could have been responsible for the decrease. Posting on X, the former lawmaker wrote: “In the last few weeks, there is a noticeable decrease in terrorist and banditry attacks and kidnappings in the North Western parts of this country. “The elimination of some of the top terrorist leaders must have been responsible.This is commendable and should be sustained.” In the past weeks, notable bandit leaders have been killed in the North. Those eliminated include- Haliru Kachalla Sububu or Buzu, Kachalla Tukur Sharme (killed by rival gang), Sani Black, another prominent bandit leader, killed along with his brother and two children, Kachalla Makore, Kachalla Mai Shayi Kachalla Tsoho Lulu and Mai’Yar Gitta.  Bandits kill varsity lecturer, abduct two children, others in Katsina


Bandits have killed Dr Tiri Gyang, a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State.


Two of his children and two other women were also abducted during the midnight onslaught in the school neighbourhood.


The deceased, Dr Gyang, was the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University.


Sources said the bandits invaded his residence at Low-cost Quarters, behind Comprehensive Hospital in Dutsinma at about 1:00 am firing gunshots.


”We started hearing gunshots a little after 1:00 am. The bandits seemed to be much. We later learnt that Dr Tiri was killed and his two children abducted. His remains have been taken to a mortuary in Katsina,” a source said


The FUDMA Public Relations Officer is yet to respond to phone calls put through to him, however, some staff of the university confirmed the incident.


Some shared the incident on their social media handles. Several students also took to social media to mourn the deceased.

Ahmed Jafar Waziri: “What a tragic news. Bandits killed Dr. Tiri and kidnapped his family. He was the last person to call me yesterday about issues in his faculty at 11:30 pm. We were supposed to meet today at 8 AM in my office.


“The university and Dutsinma communities are deeply affected by this loss.”


Comrade Yahaya Salisu Aba, the President National Association of Agricultural Students, FUDMA Chapter in a condolence message shared on Facebook stated in part:


“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our beloved father, mentor, and role model in person Of Dr Tiri Gyana, of the Department of Agricultural Economics.


“We know that no words can truly express the grief and sorrow you are feeling right now. But the entire FOA and NAAS FUDMA Chapter wants you to know that we are here for you and care about you for this great loss.


“We have lost someone special, and we are truly sorry for the loss. Dr Tiri was a special person, jovial, Gentle to the Faculty and we pray his light will always shine on, to the family, you are not alone and we all care about you deeply.”
