Community Leader Regrets Poor Distribution of Seedlings, Describing It as Sabotage

A Community Leader, Mr Onyeka Muoneke has expressed worries over the manner at which seedlings provided by Anambra State Government to communities were distributed.

He made his position known to information officers, at Mr Vincent Nweze's Compound, Agbelu Village, Akpo,  Aguata LGA, venue of sharing of seedlings given to Akpo Ward, on July 13.

Muoneke who is also Chairman, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Akpo Ward expressed dissatisfaction on the manner at which the distribution was done.

"Government will always come up with good policies to making better the society, reduce economic problems only to get these policies trashed by selfish individuals.

"You cannot claim to be supportive to government without being obedient to her and walk toward helping her achieve her goals.

"We ought to have got 2350 palm seedlings, yet as at now talking with you, we have got none.

"We were supposed to have got 700 breadfruit seedlings but what we have now are 350. The kola seedlings due to us are 330, yet we have only 280.

"Pawpaw seedlings were supposed to be 140 but what we have here is 100 with a lot of them having shock already.

"We have made complain to appropriate authorities concerned with the distribution of seedlings provided by government to her citizens.

"They promised going to look into it, ratify it and give to us all the seedlings due to us. As soon as we get it, we shall share it accordingly too. This is a promise to Ndi Akpo."

Muoneke extolled government for providing the seedlings, describing it as poverty reduction mechanism.

"For instance, the palm seedlings produce in about 3 years, the owner will harvest and go to market with it, as such generate money."

However, Muoneke suggested that Local Governments be given access to their own seedlings for collection from source, instead of pairing them with other Local Governments.

"This is to avert delays which lead to shock on these seedlings before arrival to the hand of those that will plant them.

"The shock in the seedlings reduces its chances of germinating and growing as required."

The President General, Akpo Development Association(ADA), Nze Henry C. Dim, Transition Committee Member, Akpo Ward, Mr Ikenna Onwuka who co-supervised the sharing attested that the sharing was even.

"The villages that shared the seedlings are Agbelu, Uhuala, Ogbo, Umueze, Amaife and Udo. Although there are differences in voter strength of these villages, yet we decided to share evenly to run away from rancour.
