 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Maverick entertainer, Charles Oputa popularly known as Charly Boy, has called on controversial pastor, Chukwuemeka Cyril Ohanaemere aka Odumeje, to use his power in saving Nigeria from burning.

Charly Boy lamented that Nigeria’s economy is plummeting, adding that the country is desperately in need.

According to Charly Boy: “Dear Odumeje, We Nigerians have humbly come to you – please can you stop the nation from burning, fire is catching, the economy is plummeting.

“We ask for your power in this desperate time of need.

This is coming when President Bola Tinubu rolled out measures to tackle food insecurity in the country.

The measures, announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari said a 150-Day Duty-Free Import Window for food commodities would be implemented by the Federal Government.

He noted that within its period, government will relax the tax and import duties on Wheat, Maize, Husked Brown Rice, and Cowpeas.
