Grafton County Added To Disaster Declaration

Grafton County, whose response to the April 3 - 5 nor’easter cost $450,295, has been added to the the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s major disaster declaration that already included Belknap, Carroll, Rockingham, and Sullivan counties.

The change was the result of work by the New Hampshire Department of Safety's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management which cited additional Preliminary Damage Assessments that were high enough to reach the disaster declaration threshold.

Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Rob Buxton said, “This addition shows the importance of state, local, and federal partners working together to provide local communities access to much-needed funding.”

Discussion: Governor Chris Sununu requested the addition of Grafton County to the disaster declaration in a letter to President Joe Biden Jr. on June 10, citing the severe storm that resulted in flood damage that overwhelmed state and local resources. Sununu announced the federal acceptance of the request on July 23.
