Kano court restrains Bayero, four others from parading themselves as emirs
A Kano High Court in Kano presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, on Monday, restrained dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and his counterparts of the abolished Gaya, Bichi, Karaye and Rano Emirates from parading themselves as Emirs.
Justice Amina in her judgement held that the 15th Emir of Kano and four other Emirs whosoever by themselves, servants, privies and any other persons appointed by them should stop parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye.
This is contrary to the June 20 judgement of a Federal High Court in Kano nullifying the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano, barely a month after he was restored to the throne by the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf.
Our Correspondent recalls that Kano state Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf had signed into law the Kano Emirate Council Bill (2024), after repealing the Kano Emirate Law (2019) which created four additional emirates of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano, bringing to five the Emirates across Kano state.
The creation of the five Emirates by the immediate-past administration of ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, also followed the deposition and banishment of the 14th Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi 11, over allegations of insubordination and abuse of office.
The development paved way for the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero who was overseeing the Bichi Emirate to become the 15th Emir of Kano.
However, shortly after the deposition of the five Emirs and abolishment of Bichi, Rano, Karaye and Gaya Emirates, Governor Yusuf reinstated Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi 11 as the 16th Emir of Kano.
But deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero and others went to court challenging Governor Yusuf’s action.

Kano State High Court 17, presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, has perpetually restrained Aminu Ado Bayero and four other dethroned Emirs, of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from parading themselves as Emirs.
Delivering the judgment, Monday, the Court further restrained the 15th Emir of Kano and four other Emirs, themselves, servants, privies and any other persons appointed by them from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, Karaye.
The Kano State government had filed a case asking the State High to stop the 15th Emir of Aminu Ado Bayero and four other Emirs of Karaye, Bichi, Rano and Gaya from parading themselves as Emirs.
The Government also gave the Deposed Emirs 48 hours within which to vacate their respective Palaces after being deposed.
However, the Presiding Judge, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, while delivering the judgement, said the issue of evicting the Deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero from his Nassarawa palace is a Rent Tribunal matter and should not be before her court.
But in her judgement, the judge directed the Deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero and four others to quickly hand over all the Emirate Traditional Royal Artifacts to the government and the substantive Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ii.
Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, also said the State Assembly Emirate Council Repealed Law 2024, was done according to the law as enshrined in section 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
She then ruled that the State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf’s assent to the law is also done perfectly according to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
