 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC), Lagos State Command, Mr Adedotun Keshinro has immediately, summoned, an urgent all important management meeting, which held, earlier today, Wednesday, 31st July, 2024, at the State Headquarters.


The urgent security  meeting involved all Heads of formations; departments, units, tactical, special unitis and officers in charge of various overt and covert operations, points and beats across the state.


This unrelenting and immediate action, of the Lagos State Commandant is in absolute pursuance of the marching order given by the Corps' Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, to all Zonal Commanders and State Commandants, at an emergency security briefing, held, on Monday, 29th July, 2024 at the National Headquarters, Abuja; which amidst other things clearly, addressed, both the statutory and professional role and conduct of personnel during, before and after the proposed planned nationwide protest.


The Lagos State Commandant also addressed, the media men at the emergency meeting , in a bid to intimate them on the readiness of the Command to ensuring that the lives and property of all citizens are protected. The citizens are also enjoined, to go about their normal businesses, without any fear of intimidation, in the wake of the nationwide proposed planned protest in the state.


The Heads of departments, units, area commands, divisions, tactical, special units, overt and covert operations, points and beats amidst others have also been charged, by the State Commandant, to ensure strict supervision of their ( Areas of Responsibility ), within this critical period as serious, functional and adequate logistical measures have been put in place to ensure their unflinching success.


The Lagos State Commandant has also strongly and clearly stated that the command will not condone any act of vandalism, of critical national assets and infrastructure in the state, before, during and after the proposed planned protest under any guise or unsuspecting sinister moves by faceless individuals, hoodlums, hijackers and other unscrupulous elements.


The citizens, however, are enjoined, to assist us with particularly, credible and actionable intelligence at this critical time to further aid the command to ensure that we sinister moves and all forms of economic sabotage through vandalism of our critical national assets and infrastructure that may further inflict pain on innocent and good citizens of the state are not tolerated.
