 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. Akwa Ibom State mourns the death of Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara


Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has passed away, The Nation reports. Ayilara died in the early hours of Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja. According to sources close to the family, Ayilara underwent prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday before his death occurred hours later. "We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother, and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, is dead," a family member was quoted as saying.


A top police officer in Akwa Ibom State, who chose to remain anonymous due to a lack of official authorization, confirmed Ayilara’s death. Efforts by newsmen to get a statement from Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered on Thursday morning.


Ayilara, who was appointed as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos in November 2023, had previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department. In February 2024, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun assigned him to lead the Akwa Ibom State Command, succeeding AIG Idowu Owohunwa.
