 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. Akwa Ibom State mourns the death of Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara


Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has passed away, The Nation reports. Ayilara died in the early hours of Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja. According to sources close to the family, Ayilara underwent prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday before his death occurred hours later. "We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother, and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, is dead," a family member was quoted as saying.


A top police officer in Akwa Ibom State, who chose to remain anonymous due to a lack of official authorization, confirmed Ayilara’s death. Efforts by newsmen to get a statement from Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered on Thursday morning.


Ayilara, who was appointed as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos in November 2023, had previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department. In February 2024, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun assigned him to lead the Akwa Ibom State Command, succeeding AIG Idowu Owohunwa.
