BORNO STATE GOVT PROVIDES URGENT RELIEF TO A MALNOURISHED FAMILY. (PHOTOS).

Borno State Government Provides Urgent Relief to a Malnourished Family.

The Borno State Government has swiftly responded by addressing a humanitarian crisis that gained widespread attention through social media, particularly on Facebook, with a viral post showing the plight of a family battling acute malnutrition in the Bayan Texaco area of Maiduguri.

Upon learning of the family’s unfortunate situation, the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development swiftly mobilised resources to provide comprehensive support.

The Hon. Commissioner, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, personally oversaw the relief efforts, ensuring that the family received the necessary assistance without delay.

... Assessment of the Family's Needs

The family's situation was dire, characterised by malnutrition and significant health challenges, particularly affecting the vision of three children. One child had previously undergone eye surgery in Kaduna.

In response to the situation, the Borno State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, initiated a comprehensive support package.

This included the provision of essential food items:

1. 50 kg bag of rice

2. A 50-kg bag of Garin Masara

3. A 50-kg bag of Garin Biski

4. A carton of detergent

5. 25 litres of cooking oil

6. 5 mattresses

7. 5 blankets

8. Sachets of Maggie

9. A carton of Vaseline

And a cash of N20,000.

The father, who lost his business due to the cost of treating his children, could no longer pay for his rent; hence, he has to move to a dilapidated, uncompleted house to stay in. The government therefore secured a rented apartment for them in Shuwari 5 in order to provide a stable and conducive environment for the family's recovery and rehabilitation.

...Ongoing Support and Future Plans

The government's intervention has garnered significant attention, with individuals, groups, and associations offering additional support to the family.

Notably, the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, has dispatched a team to assess the family's situation and identify areas where further assistance can be provided.

The family has expressed deep gratitude to the Borno State Governor, Prof. Engr Babagana Umara Zulum, and the Honourable Commissioner, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, for their timely and compassionate response.
