 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville. The celebrations opened with the awarding of medals yesterday (02/08/24) and ended today with a beehive of activities and entertainment. The event was graced by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi. 


The President bestowed medals on deserving police officers of different ranks. The medals included Botswana Police Long Service and Good Conduct which is awarded at 18 years of service; Botswana Police Service Jubilee given at 25years and Botswana Police Distinguished Service Order for 30 years.


His Excellency also inspected the Guard of Honour and Ceremonial Parades on the two days respectively mounted by BPS in his honour. He was amongst the multitudes who celebrated this magnificent event first hand.


The event was broadcast live on Botswana Television, various government Facebook pages including BWgovernment and BPS.  On the menu of activities, the spectators were served amongst others, the tug of war, callisthenics, motorcycle, band and air displays and acrobatics.
