Former Abia Speaker Appeals To President Tinubu To Investigate the Abandonment of the Eastern Railway Corridor

Engr. Chinedum Orji Comends president Tinubu's Efforts to End Marginalization, Calls for Investigation in to the Abandonment of the Eastern Railway Corridor.

Engr Chinedum Orji, the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, has publicly lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing efforts to address the longstanding issue of marginalization in Nigeria.

In a detailed statement released to the press, Orji commended the president for his inclusive approach to governance, which he believes is beginning to rectify the historical neglect experienced by certain regions in the country, particularly the Southeast.

Orji expressed optimism that Tinubu’s administration will continue to prioritize projects and policies that ensure equitable development across all regions. He noted that the president’s actions so far demonstrate a commitment to reversing the trend of marginalization that has left many parts of the country, especially the Southeast, lagging behind in terms of infrastructure and economic development.

However, while praising the president’s broader agenda, Orji did not shy away from highlighting ongoing challenges. He raised serious concerns over the abandonment of the Eastern Railway Corridor project, a critical infrastructure project intended to boost economic activities and improve connectivity across the Eastern region.

The former Speaker criticized the contractors involved, accusing them of neglecting their responsibilities and abandoning the project without completion.

Orji stressed the importance of the Eastern Railway Corridor, not just for the Southeast, but for the entire nation. He explained that the railway line is vital for facilitating the movement of goods and people, reducing road congestion, and enhancing trade within and beyond the region. The project, if completed, would play a crucial role in unlocking the economic potential of the Eastern states, creating jobs, and fostering regional integration.

In his statement, Orji called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the reasons behind the abandonment of the project. He urged the federal government to hold the contractors accountable and to take swift action to ensure that work on the railway line resumes without further delay.

Engr Chinedum Orji also appealed to relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transportation and other federal agencies, to prioritize the completion of the Eastern Railway Corridor.

Orji’s remarks have resonated with many in the Southeast, where there is growing frustration over the slow pace of infrastructure development.

The Eastern Railway Corridor, which has been touted as a game-changer for the region, remains incomplete, leaving residents and businesses to contend with inadequate transportation options and the resulting economic stagnation.

As the Southeast continues to advocate for its fair share of national development, Orji’s call for swift action on the railway project underscores the urgent need for the federal government to deliver on its promises.

The former Speaker remains hopeful that under President Tinubu’s leadership, the longstanding issues of marginalization will be addressed, and that the Eastern Railway Corridor will soon become a reality, contributing to the growth of the region.
