The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. He explained that the vehicles will be deployed exclusively to security operatives providing cover for construction teams along the section of the super highway passing through Kebbi State.   Four Arrested for Possession of Stolen Sheep Worth R120,000

In the early hours of 27 August 2024, members of the Welkom Flying Squad, while patrolling Jason Street in Riebeeckstad, Welkom, noticed two vehicles—a maroon Mazda with GP number plates and a white Toyota Hilux bakkie with FS number plates—both towing trailers and loading sheep.

The officers immediately stopped the vehicles and requested transportation certificates, which raised suspicions. The Odendaalsrus Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit was called in to investigate further.

Their investigation revealed that the 52 sheep, valued at R120,000, had been stolen from Wolwepan farm in the Welkom district. Another case related to the theft had already been registered in Odendaalsrus.

The four suspects, aged between 31 and 46, were promptly arrested for possession of suspected stolen livestock. The police also seized the vehicles, the trailers, and two cellphones.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate Court soon.
