 KIDNAPPED GROOM-TO-BE REGAINS FREEDOM IN BENUE  Tartenger Terdue James, who was abducted days before his traditional marriage, has regained his freedom after his family paid a ransom to his captors in Benue State. James was kidnapped last Tuesday evening while travelling to Cross River State to purchase palm oil for his traditional wedding scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025. What was meant to be a joyful pre-wedding trip quickly plunged his family into fear, sleepless nights, and desperate prayers. Relief came in the early hours of Tuesday, December 17, when James reunited with his family at about 4:00 a.m. He reportedly told relatives that his abductors released him around 2:00 a.m. Family sources confirmed that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦3 million but released him after receiving about ₦1.5 million. “We tried our best and sent part of the money they asked for.  NYSC revokes 101 fraudulently mobilized UNICAL graduates’ certificate


The National Youth Service Corp says ninety-nine persons, with the exemption of two others, were fraudulently mobilised from the University of Calabar between the 2021 and 2023 service years.


Consequently, the scheme said the Certificates of National Service of the listed 101 persons, have been invalidated while urging members of the public to confirm the authenticity of certificates presented by the National Directorate Headquarters of the NYSC.


This was contained in a statement signed by NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, on Monday.


The Management also restated its commitment to ensure that only qualified persons were issued the Certificates of National Service, while those from unaccredited universities were not.


The statement reads, “This is to inform members of the public that the under-listed Ninety-Nine (99) persons and two (2) others on exemption were fraudulently mobilised by the University of Calabar for National Service during the 2021, 2022 and 2023 NYSC Service Years.


“Management of the National Youth Service Corps hereby restates its strong commitment to ensuring that unqualified locally and foreign-trained Nigerian youths, especially those purported to have graduated from unaccredited universities, are not recognised while only qualified persons are issued with NYSC Certificates of National Service”.


“Arising from the above, the Certificates of National Service of the under-listed persons have been invalidated forthwith by the NYSC Management.


Members of the public, especially Corps Employers, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Corporate and Religious Organisations, Multi-National Companies, Corps Producing Institutions and other critical stakeholders of NYSC are to take note of this advertorial for prompt action. In addition, members of the public are also enjoined to confirm from NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, the authenticity of Certificates of National Service, Exemption and Exclusion Letters being presented for any purpose”.
